Most Popular Used Cars in June

2 Minute read

There’s quite a lot in the media at the moment about some used cars being in short supply, and prices consequently going up. So, what exactly are the most popular used cars at the moment?

We’ve been having a look at the cars that were most popular on the CarXpert site in June.

CarXpert lets you rate used cars based on their MOT history, and it’s those ratings that are the basis for this article. We’ve looked at how many cars of each make and model had ratings carried out on them, and we’ve also had a look at the most popular fuel types and the ages of cars that people have been rating.

If you haven’t tried CarXpert’s used car rating system, you can try it here – just pop in the registration number of the car you want to rate.

Most Popular Models

The most popular used car in June on CarXpert was the Ford Fiesta.

Ford Fiesta Mk7

Here’s the full top ten showing the proportion of ratings carried out in June for each model –

That’s fairly consistent with the most recent figures from the SMMT on used car sales, which also had the Fiesta in first place and the Golf and the Corsa in the top 4. It’s worth pointing out that the top ten only accounted for just under 28% of all cars rated in June, so people are looking at a wide variety of cars.

Age of Cars Rated

Next, let’s have a look at the age profile of cars that people have been rating, as shown on this chart:

The biggest single age grouping was cars aged 11 to 15 years old. That’s the pattern we’ve seen since we launched CarXpert in April, and the average of cars rated has been pretty consistent too, at just over twelve years. Using our five star rating system it’s easy to see which used cars have the best MOT history and are therefore likely to be in better condition, and that’s particularly important if you’re looking for an older used car.

Most Popular Fuel Types

We also looked at how the used cars that people rated in June are powered. There’s been quite a big shift away from Diesel to Petrol compared to May, while other forms of propulsion account for a very small proportion of the cars rated, as you can see from the chart below –

We hope you found this brief summary of what we’ve been seeing on CarXpert over the last month interesting, and if there’s any other topics you’d like us to cover please let us know in the comments.
