We’ve been looking at which cars are most popular with users of CarXpert over the last month, and in July it was the BMW 3 Series.

BMW 3 Series Generations

CarXpert lets you rate used cars based on their MOT history, and it’s those ratings that are the basis for this article. We’ve looked at how many cars of each make and model had ratings carried out on them, and we’ve also had a look at the most popular fuel types and the ages of cars that people have been rating.

If you haven’t tried CarXpert’s used car rating system, you can try it here – just enter the registration number of the car you want to rate. You can get a rating for any car that’s old enough to have MOT history in England, Scotland and Wales.

Most Popular Models

Apart from the BMW 3 Series, what other types of car were people getting ratings for? Here’s the list of the top 10 most popular used cars in July:

These ten models accounted for just over a quarter (26%) of all of the cars rated during July. While the models that make up the top 10 are fairly consistent each month we’ve had a different most popular car in each of May, June, and July.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) publishes its data on used car sales quarterly. For 2021 only figures for the quarter ending in March are available so far, but the models in the SMMT top ten are consistent with the ones we’ve seen over the last few months.

Age of Cars Rated

So what’s the age of used cars that people are looking at?

As you can see, the 11 to 15 year old age group accounted for the highest proportion of cars. The average age of cars that were rated was just over 12 years.

Most Popular Fuel Types

Looking at how the used cars people rated are powered, petrol was the most popular form of propulsion in July.

We hope you found this brief summary of what we’ve been seeing on CarXpert over the last month interesting, and if there’s any other topics you’d like us to cover please let us know in the comments.
