Car of the Week June 4th

We’ve just had a look at the kind of used cars people were getting CarXpert ratings for during May.

One of the things we noticed was that the average age of cars people rated was just over 12 years, so we thought we’d see if we could find a 5 Star Car of that kind of age. To qualify as a 5 star car, a car must have had zero MOT fails and zero advisory items reported. As you’d imagine, that’s quite a high bar to clear for a 12 year old or older car.

Another thing we saw in May was that the Volkswagen Golf was the most popular used car in terms of ratings requested, so just to make things a bit harder we thought we’d try and find a 5 Star Golf that was over 12 years old.

Obviously, we did, and here it is.

Now, there is a bit of a catch. If you know your Golfs you will have noticed that this is a R32, which is a very sought after modern classic, so it’s not cheap – £15,900 to be precise. Given the spotless MOT history, the fact it’s a 2 owner car and has done 43,000 miles, it may represent good value for one of these though. I’ll leave you to decide.

If this one’s not for you, don’t forget you can get a rating for any used car with MOT history that you’re considering at CarXpert.

Here’s the rating for this week’s car, and its complete MOT history –
